First Toad of the Season

... as many as a dozen species may burst their buds on a single day. No man can heed all of these anniversaries; no man can ignore all of them. ~Aldo Leopold

It's one of life's free pleasures: making note of each reemerging species. We've found the first caterpillar of spring and watched the transformation into a chrysalis. We planted sunflowers and wildflowers and catnip and watched them grow, waiting for them to flower. Mom has been visited by the first ruby-throated hummingbird. And Daddy acquainted her with this guy - the first toad of summer, a big one.
